Arizona Cardinals NFL 2014: Season Ends Prematurely for Andre Ellington

Arizona Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians announced on Sunday that running back Andre Ellington will be placed on the injured list following numerous injuries.

Ellington reportedly has a sports hernia and injuries to his foot and hip, ending his run for the Arizona Cardinals for the season. He is ending the season early with a total of 660 yards and three touchdowns at 3.3 yards per rush, as well as 395 yards and two touchdowns with 46 catches.

It has been reported that Ellington will travel to Philadelphia to undergo surgery and repair the hernia on Monday. During his run for the Cardinals, the 5-foot-9, 199-pound Ellington has played a total of 27 games, had a scrimmage total of 2,078 yards and scored nine touchdowns.

The Cardinals are now pinning their hopes for their upcoming game on Sunday on the shoulders of Kerwynn Williams. Williams ran 100 yards at 5.3 yards per clip during their match against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ellington is just one name on the lengthy list of injured players after Week 14 of the season.

Ellington's teammate, Antonio Cromartie is suffering from a lower leg injury, possibly a peroneal tendon injury at his right ankle. He will be heading to Philadelphia on Monday to have an MRI.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger suffered a sprain in his throwing shoulder, which was worsened by a separated joint during the match against the Giants. Julius Thomas of the Denver Broncos ended up with a sprained ankle and has been absent from the past three games. Colt McCoy of the Washington Redskins was pulled from the game following a neck strain.

Indianapolis Colts' Reggie Wayne has been playing despite a torn triceps injury, while New York Jets' Percy Harvin ended up with a low ankle sprain, and Baltimore Ravens' Torrey Smith had a swelled knee.
