Asus ZenFone Zoom Unveiled, Can Rival Any SLR Camera, Even The iPhone 6s Plus
Asus has finally unveiled the ZenFone Zoom after almost a year of showing it off, first at the CES and then at IFA. The unique feature of the new device is its camera which Asus claims can rival an SLR camera and even the iPhone 6s Plus, according to a report in Tech Times. The device was also announced to be available initially in Taiwan starting mid-December.
Asus Chairman Jonney Shih said this about the device's image quality: "…the ZenFone Zoom can not only rival single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, judging from all the features it as well as outshine iPhone 6s Plus."
The phone's 13-megapixel main camera is far from being standard. Unlike other smartphones, this has a 3X optical zoom lens without the bulkiness that is expected in optical zoom lenses. The camera despite the optical zoom is only 5mm thick.
According to the report, the camera's lens is in fact a special 10-element lens which was designed with the help of optic experts of HOYA. It is said to be composed of four aspherical lenses, two prismatic lenses, and four ultra-low glass lenses that are arranged in such a way that allows the maximal capture of available light in order to produce the best image quality. A physical camera button is also available on the device so that photos can be easily taken with the device.
The camera also comes with optical image stabilization to make sure photos do not turn out to be blurry. A dual-LED Real Tone flash and fast auto-focus capabilities are also available with the camera.
Design-wise, the phone also looks good with an all-metal black body made of aerospace-grade 6063-series aluminium. Its back case cover is made of all-black faux leather.
A Gadgets 360 report describes the other specs of the phone. Under the hood, one variant will have a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor that powers the device, running at 2.3 GHz, while another will have a quad-core Intel Atom Z3590 processor, running at 2.5 GHz. The former will have 64 GB of internal storage while the latter will have 128 GB of internal storage. Both variants will have 4 GB of RAM.
Asus ZenUI that is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop will be pre-installed in the device. The phone's selfie camera will be a 5 megapixel shooter. The phone has a 5.5 inch full HD display that has 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
