'Bates Motel' Season 5 Spoilers: This 'Psycho' Character Is To Appear In Next Installment

Fans of A&E's hit psycho horror drama TV series "Bates Motel," might still be reeling from the shocking events that took place in the show's Season 4 finale in which Vera Farmiga's beloved Norma Bates died in the hands of her own son, Norman (Freddie Highmore). Season 5, which would reportedly be the last installment of the series, is expected to reveal more of Norman's mental decline. However, the recent news indicates that there's actually something big coming next for the "Psycho" prequel series.

According to TVLine, the show is about to introduce a very familiar character taken straight from Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror film.

As confirmed by the publication, the character of Marion Crane, played by Jamie Lee Curtis' mother, Janet Leigh, in the movie, will be seen during Season 5 of "Bates Motel." For the uninitiated, this is the woman that Norman murdered in the iconic shower scene in "Psycho." Crane is probably one of the most recognizable faces when it comes to horror victims.

"We do hope to see Marion Crane next season," executive producer Carlton Cuse said, while adding, "That will be a big moment."

When asked further if the character would appear in multiple episodes during the season, Cuse confirmed that she will. This gives the impression that the show is really gearing towards the "Psycho" storyline. However, Cuse clarified that they won't necessarily be recreating the classic film.

"We wanted the final season to allow us to do our version of the Psycho lore," the showrunner added. "We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho."

What the show wants to emphasize instead is the devotion that the mother and son have for each other.

In a separate interview with the publication, co-exec producer Kerry Ehrin said that "the obsessive love of Norma is what the show is going to be based on."

"It's the heart of what drives it. That is going to be hugely important in Season 5," the EP added.
