'Boardwalk Empire' Season 4 Episode 8 Recap Plus Spoilers: Chalky in Love?

Last night's episode of HOB's hit prohibition-era drama "Boardwalk Empire" was full of surprises. It seems yet another character won't survive until the end of the season as the death count on the show rose. For spoilers of upcoming episodes, read on.

Last night Dunn Purnsley died while in a fight with Chalky. However it was no Chalky who killed Dunn, but rather Daughter who stabbed Dunn in an act of rebellion during the fight. The actor who plays Dunn, Erik LaRay Harvey, and "Boardwalk Empire" executive producer Howard Korder sat down with TV Guide to discuss the death of Dunn.

Koder spoke about why Daughter acted out, and what it means for future episodes.

"She has a deep and very twisted relationship with her mentor, father-figure, Svengali, Valentin Narcisse, and this is a very violent act of freeing herself. I don't think she knows what she's freeing herself for, but it is an act of rebellion," the executive producer said.

"What happens in this episode is she and Chalky fall in love. Somewhere underneath everything, they are kindred spirits. So, something in her rises up and definitely tries to free itself, and she does that by stabbing Dunn. The fate of these two characters is locked for the rest of our season," Koder added.

Harvey mentioned that the death of Dunn will change the plot as it has been progressing thus far.

"Yeah, definitely. It's gratifying to help move the story along," the actor said.

He also said that Dunn was originally not supposed to play such a big role.

"I had a ball doing it. I wasn't even scripted for a season originally. It was just one episode. To have them write me into the show for three years has just been great. I have had so much fun. And they trusted me enough to give me this whole episode. Even though I die in Episode 8, it was one of my best episodes ever. I can't wait to see it," Harvey said.
