'Die Hard 6' May Be Set In 1979 & Will Reveal How John McClane Became Unbeatable
It's good news for "Die Hard" fans as last week saw the announcement that the 6th installment in the "Die Hard' franchise was rolling and will be helmed by Len Wiseman with Bruce Willis also on board.
As reported by Deadline, Bruce Willis will return to "Die Hard 6" to round up a story set in 1979. It also reports that the studio, 20th Century Fox, is going about it in a planned manner. Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is currently teaming up with director Len Wiseman to develop "Die Hard 6." It's title will be "Die Hard: Year One."
Fans of the franchise were pretty much disappointed by the last movie, "Die Hard 5." They feared that the movie was an example of "milking the franchise until the last drop." There was no story to tell and Bruce Willis seemed resigned to fate.

The creators of "Die Hard 6" will have to dig out a superb plotline and work on the character of John McClane for this to succeed.
The film will see John McClane as a police officer with the NYPD in 1979 and will focus on how he lost all fear to become the toughest cop.
Wiseman and di Bonaventura are looking for a complete reinvention of the "Die Hard" series and want to focus on the gritty, crime-filled New York of 1979 and how John McClane got his 'die hard' attitude. Presently, they are on the lookout for a screenwriter.
Many screenwriters would jump at the opportunity as John McClane remains a favourite character from the Hollywood factory even after 40 years.
The film will obviously have a younger actor playing John McClane in 1979 while Bruce Willis will come in as the present John McClane to weave the story together. Previously in "Looper," Joseph Gordon-Levitt had played the young version of Bruce Willis.
Under Wiseman's direction, the 2007 installment, "Live Free Or Die Hard," performed well in theaters and grossed $383 million with a $134 million domestic gross. Di Bonaventura comes in as producer as he has a good relationship with Bruce Willis and he has been kept in the loop by all the while by 20th Century Fox even though his production company, Di Bonaventura Pictures, is Paramount-based.
With stalwarts like these on the job, fans can expect a hit of the latest venture, "Die Hard 6."
