'Elementary' Season 4 Episode 2 Has Tension Brewing Between Sherlock's Father & Joan Watson

"Elementary" Season 4 had a good start and the premiere episode titled 'The Past Is Parent" featured the entry of Sherlock's father, Morland Holmes. In the upcoming episode, tension brews between Joan Watson and Morland. With both Sherlock & Watson out of work, Joan takes up a case.

The last season had Sherlock going down and hitting rock bottom, making a mess of his professional and personal life. In the new season, Sherlock Holmes, played by Jonny Lee Miller, will be trying to regain control of his life as he grapples with his drinking problem, financial crisis and his father who has control issues.

The synopsis of the next episode states: "When Morland offers to use his influence to have Sherlock and Joan reinstated as consultants to the NYPD, Sherlock's mistrust of his father makes him question his motivation to help. Also, with no work offers coming in, Watson wrangles a gig with the FBI investigating a triple homicide in a top-secret research lab."

Sherlock seems to be in for a rough patch with his father butting in to get Sherlock & Watson back on NYPD. The case of a triple homicide in a lab seems typical Sherlock, a case he would like to sink his teeth into. In the promo, Joan Watson tells Sherlock's father that she does not trust him. Morland Holmes had been Joan's employer at one time and she knows what kind of a man he is and she is just trying to protect Sherlock from him.

Sherlock's father is being played by 67-year-old Australian actor John Noble and viewers would be familiar with his work in television shows like "Sleepy Hollow" and "Fringe."

Both father and son are similar in the way that they try to control any situation they are in. Sherlock resents his father coming to the Brownstone and trying to help or save him.

Noble spoke with IGN recently and said that his character is calm, strong and articulate. He loves his son and knowing what Sherlock has got himself into, he comes back to save him.

He adds, "To know the father is to understand the son to some degree." He went on to say, "In the company of our parents, it doesn't matter whether we're sixty or six, we revert to children ... and the status changes."

He concludes, "For the first three years Sherlock has always had the status, he walks into a room and he's in control of it. When he walks in with his father, he's not."

Season 4 of "Elementary" promises to be more than just a procedural drama. With his father there, will Sherlock's brother also make an appearance? Also, Sherlock's constant correspondence with Moriarty is building up to some super episodes ahead.

"Elementary" airs on Thursdays on CBS. The next episode of "Elementary" airs Nov. 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
