'Fallout 4' Survival Mode Steam Beta Starts Next Week

Bethesda Game Studios announced recently that "Fallout 4's" Survival mode will enter beta on Steam next week. The company has asked fans to "stand by" for more details.

The company announced the upcoming beta on Twitter. It's not clear when the beta will start and end, but as mentioned, Bethesda will announce the details soon.

"#Fallout4 Survival mode overhaul should be in Steam beta next week. #PleaseStandBy," Bethesda told fans through Twitter on Tuesday.

After the beta, "Fallout 4's" Survival Mode is expected to release to PC players first, according to Pete Hines, vice president of PR and marketing at Bethesda. The full Steam release will be followed by the new mode's launch on Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.

"Survival mode update. Once it's out of PC beta it'll go to Steam release and we can submit for consoles," Hines told fans on Twitter on March 22.

"Fallout 4's" Survival Mode will raise the level of difficulty in the game to the highest it's ever been so far. It will introduce diseases and other challenges that will make surviving on the wasteland harder.

The mode was leaked last month in Reddit. The Survival mode details posted on the site came from data mining the in-game files. Soon after the leak, Bethesda confirmed the new mode and acknowledged that their fans are "too smart."

"Fallout 4's" Survival Mode is expected to disable manual and quick saves. It will make combat more lethal and removed the game's Fast Travel feature. This means players need to either walk or ride to be able to get to places. How fast they get to their destination will be affected by the weight of ammunition they're carrying, with bullets and shells weighing less while rockets and fusion cores weighing more. Players will also have to deal with hunger, fatigue, and sickness. These and more are expected to arrive with the new mode.
