'Fear the Walking Dead' Renewed for Season 3 at AMC

"Fear The Walking Dead," the spin-off series of the original zombie survival series "The Walking Dead" is coming back for a third run after AMC renewed the series for another season which is estimated to air sometime in 2017. According to a Deadline report, the spin-off that was created by Robert Kirkman and David Erickson will have a 16-episode run for its third season as ordered by AMC.

"Fear The Walking Dead" just started its second season and according to reports, its rank among viewers ages 18-49 has been steady at 2nd place, after the original series, "The Walking Dead." This is despite a steady decline in ratings, according to Deadline.

The series follows the story of a group of people who are dealing with strange occurrences in Los Angeles which is apparently the start of the zombie plague that is already full blown in "The Walking Dead." Considered as a prequel to the original series, it features several interesting characters: a high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens), her boyfriend and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis), her heroin-addicted son Nick (Frank Dillane) and her over-achiever daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), and Travis' son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie). Their unusual family set-up adds to the drama that they are already dealing with at the start of the zombie apocalypse.

The first season was a short one, with only six episodes, but the show was renewed for a second season. Season 2 officially started on April 10 and will run for 15 episodes. According to an IGN report, season 2 opened strong, with over 8.8 million viewers tuning in, making it the second most popular cable show this season.

In a Variety report, AMC President Charlie Collier said that Erickson and Kirkman created a show that is "to be applauded." He added, "Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world – it's fresh, eerie and compelling and we're all in for the ride."

"Fear The Walking Dead" airs every Sunday at 9 p.m. on AMC.
