Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket to Compete?
The Galaxy Nexus will launch exclusively on Verizon’s network making other carriers in need of a powerful Android smartphone to compete.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket might be just the right device for AT&T.
“Dubbed the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, it certainly has enough “fuel” to reach the Samsung Galaxy Nexus,” reported Technology Website GizmoCrunch. “Sans Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket surpasses the Nexus phone.”

The Skyrocket received a significant upgrade from AT&T’s original S2, including a 1.5GHz where the Galaxy Nexus only has a 1.2GHz.
Skyrocket also boasts an 8-megapixel camera and 5-megapixel-rear shooter that outclasses the Galaxy Nexus.
The TouchWiz UI also makes for an interesting addition to Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich operating system for the Skyrocket.
The Galaxy Nexus is the flagship phone for the new software, but the Skyrocket could be the one to perfect it.
Analysts expect the Galaxy Nexus to sport a price tag of at least $299 with a two-year contract since this is usually the standard for LTE smartphones launching on Verizon.
The Skyrocket probably will not launch with Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed, but will most likely be one of the first phones to upgrade to the system.
Analysts expect the Skyrocket to cost around $249.99 at launch, undercutting the Galaxy Nexus by $50.00.
The original Samsung Galaxy S2 performed extremely well overseas and received rave reviews upon its initial release.
The smartphone eventually launched for all the United States’ major carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.
On Sprint, the device is called the Epic 4G Touch.
The AT&T Skyrocket version is set to launch as one of the first high-end devices compatible with the carrier’s new LTE network.
