Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 Specs to Include PLS LCD Displays

Samsung's Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 specs might include PLS LCD displays, according to a new report.

A Korean publication stated that the company is considering using these displays on next year's handsets to cut production costs by almost 20 percent. Samsung currently uses the technology in the Nexus 10 and the Galaxy Note 10.1.

LCD displays have certain advantages such as more natural colors and lesser battery drain usage while a user browses the web or navigates through another app. The move to LCD could prove bad for Samsung as the AMOLED panel on the Galaxy Note 3 has been perfected to the point where it can get close to equal picture as the best of LCD. This has been one of the major selling points for the Galaxy line. LCD displays could be a step back for Samsung.

This rumor should be taken with a grain of salt as the company recently announced that it planned to produce Super AMOLED panels with 2k resolution. The Galaxy S5 and Note 4 will most likely move in this direction.

The Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4 could also both end up featuring fingerprint sensors. Swedish company Fingerprint Cards confirmed to Reuters recently that multiple mobile phone companies will be releasing devices using its fingerprint technology with Samsung on board for at least two.

"I think at least seven or eight [companies] will launch a phone with a touch sensor in 2014," said Johan Carlstrom, Fingerprints Chief Executive Officer to Reuters in an interview this week.

All of these companies are following in the footsteps of Apple, who launched the iPhone 5S earlier this year with a fingerprint sensor built into its circular home button.
