'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 News, Spoilers: Jerrika Hinton Hints at Surprising Twist for Dr. Edwards

While Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) wasn't very visible in Thursday's episode of "Grey's Anatomy," titled "I Am Not Waiting Anymore," she has nonetheless come into her own in the current season. The young doctor has emerged as a competent protege and sidekick of the neuro chief, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), with whom she has also built a solid friendship.

Cosmopolitan.com recently spoke to Hinton about her role in the veteran medical drama and how she handles switching back and forth between major storylines and receding into the background. During the interview, Hinton teased that Steph will be involved in a shocking twist near the end of the show's current season.

According to the actress, there will be a plot point near the season's end where "Stephanie makes a decision that I, as an actor, as a human being [would not make]."

"I got on the phone with the writers a lot, and I was like, 'You're really having her do this?'" she said.

Though Hinton admitted that she is typically open to Stephanie engaging in things that she, as a person, wouldn't agree with, she was surprised by the intern's upcoming storyline.

"I won't keep talking about it, because I think it might be coming too close to spoiler-y," the actress told the website. "But even in that decision, I see within it her attempting to be the best her that she knows how to be in that moment. That's what makes the show sing and gives it its loyal viewership."

In the next episode of ABC's long-running medical drama series, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will regret moving forward with Thorpe (Scott Elrod), Amelia will mull over her relationship with Owen (Kevin McKidd), Maggie (Kelly McCreary) will be at a loss as to her fledgling romance with DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), and Catherine's (Debbie Allen) arrival will have a big impact on April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson's (Jesse Williams) dilemma.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
