'Incredibles 2' News, Update: Writer Brad Bird Reveals Progress of Story Already Is Now More Than Halfway to Completion

Nearly five months ago, writer Brad Bird revealed in an interview with NPR.org that he was just starting to write the script for the highly-anticipated sequel of Pixar's beloved animated film, "The Incredibles."

Fast forward this week, the scribe, who is also the brain behind "Ratatouille," confirmed to Collider.com, during his interview for the upcoming release of "The Iron Giant: Signature Edition," that he is now past half the work load and the film is now eyed for a tentative release date.

"I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it. I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it," he told the publication.

As of the release date, initial reports took Bird's statement indicating that "Incredibles 2" might come first before "Cars 3" and was thought to hit the theaters by 2018.

However, a representative for Bird was quick enough to give some clarifications on the issue and instead told Collider that "the release date shuffle Bird was referring to was for how the first Incredibles movie related to the first Cars movie."

Regardless of which, the media outlet went on to probe Bird about the plot of the upcoming title but the helmer opted to remain mum on the details.

He did, however, seem to suggest that "Incredibles 2" won't be following the current cinematic trend of superhero movies. He told the media outlet that the film won't "trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is."

Instead, they will try to "keep it focused" on the areas that the 2004 big screen hit was known of and that is more on "characters and relationships and stuff like that."

Back in May, Bird told the Variety.com that he's got "many, many elements" that he think "would work really well in another Incredibles film."

"The Incredibles 2" was officially announced March of last year by Disney CEO Bob Iger during a shareholder's meeting. Stay tuned for more updates.
