iPhone 5 Release Date: Cheapest iPhone 4S in the World Sells Out in 10 Minutes

Apple took reservations for the iPhone 4S this past Friday in Hong Kong and in 14 additional countries, and pre-orders sold out within 10 minutes, according to Ticonderoga analyst Brian White.

Hong Kong offers the 16 GB version of the device unlocked for the cheapest price in the world at $603. The same smartphone goes for $649 in the United States.

Buying the iPhone in Hong Kong is beneficial for citizens, because they could save money on more than just the unlocked version of the device.

“Due to low taxes, Hong Kong and Shanghai are among the best places to buy Apple gear,” wrote the 9to5Mac technology website. “This is certainly good news as the iPhone 4S heads to store shelves in Hong Kong this coming Friday.”

The rest of China should receive the device sometime in December, according to White.

Siri, the most popular feature of the new iPhone 4S, is not yet available in Mandarin or Cantonese, but should receive a language upgrade sometime in 2012.

China earned Apple 1 in 6 dollars of revenue last quarter.

“Our retail checks reveal Apple is experiencing daily stock outs at 85-90% of the 30 retail stores we called,” said Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore regarding the high-demand for iPhone 4S in other places in the world.

“Apple employees are directing customers to make an online appointment for next day pick up at nearby Apple retail stores as stocks appear to be refreshed daily at most locations,” he added.

The iPhone 4S launched in the U.S. along with seven other countries on Oct. 14.

It quickly became the highest selling iPhone moving over 4 million units in just four days.
