iPhone 5 Release Date: iPhone 4S Sells Out in Hong Kong in Just 3 Hours

The iPhone 4S has sold out in just three hours in Hong Kong as thousands of Apple fans flocked to stores to get the first batch of latest iPhones, according to China tech news site, TechNode.

Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White has written in a note to clients: “Today was the first day the iPhone 4S became available at stores in Hong Kong but pre-ordering opened up last Friday. Today's sellout follows our checks in Hong Kong last Friday that indicated the iPhone 4S pre-orders sold out in less than ten minutes.”

The Apple online store in Hong Kong currently indicates that the smartphone is sold out.

The news comes just weeks after the massive launch of the iPhone 4S in the United States. The latest Apple smartphone has become the fastest selling smartphone of all time, and U.S. stores are still playing catch-up; the U.S. Apple online store still indicates 1-2 week shipping time.

Despite selling out in Hong Kong, many customers will be left disappointed as the state-of-the-art voice recognition technology, Siri, is not currently available in Mandarin language. Currently, only English, French and German languages are available. Rumors currently indicate that the Mandarin voice recognition software will be available from March 2012.

White has said, “With 16 percent of sales from China, we believe the iPhone 4S sellout in Hong Kong within just three hours bodes well for demand in China. We expect Apple to launch the iPhone 4S in mainland China this December.”
