With the iPhone 5 expected to launch today at Apple's "Let's Talk iPhone" event, and to be released soon after, buzz about its competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has begun to die down.

First, it had a false release date on September 18 and was delayed until October 2.

Now that the smartphone has been released, a security flaw, which allows the Galaxy S2 to be accessed without entering a PIN or unlock pattern has been discovered.

Commentators suggest that the anticlimactic U.S. release of the Galaxy S2 may hurt its sales

It is yet to be seen if the Galaxy S2 will have success in the U.S., but has been internationally popular since its global debut in late April.

Since then, over 10 million Galaxy S2 handsets have been sold worldwide. Its global popularity and impressive specs have garnered it the nickname "iPhone Killer."

However, the soon to be released iPhone 5 seems to be holding steady with its "unprecedented demand."

Analysts project that Apple will sell significantly more iPhone 5 handsets in the three days after its release than the 1.7 million iPhone 4 handsets that sold after the latter's June 24, 2010 release.

They expect that the iPhone 5 will sell 84 million handsets by the end of 2011 and 107 million handsets by the end of 2012.

A quickly expanding global market is expected to aid in the selling of the iPhone 5.

iPhone sales have remained high, with 20 million handsets being sold globally in the second quarter alone.
