Kesha and Zedd Release 'True Colors' with Dr. Luke's Permission

After three years, Kesha has released a new single in collaboration with Zedd. Titled "True Colors," the single released with Dr. Luke's permission as Zedd clarified on Twitter.

"True Colors" is Kesha's cover of Zedd's 2015 song which was originally sang by Rock Mafia's Tim James. Kesha teased the song on Instagram hours before dropping the song on Vevo on April 29. The date was filled with new music as other artists like Calvin Harris and Rihanna, Drake, and Pouya also dropped their latest beat.

She sang the song for the first time during a surprise performance at the California music and arts festival Coachella last April 17. Her performance during Zedd's set marks her first public performance since February when a judge denied preliminary injunction which would have allowed her to record without Dr. Luke.

Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, still has a legal hold on her, however. In fact, the press release announcing the new single has the Kemosabe imprint on it. Kemosabe is Dr. Luke's record label, which along with Interscope and RCA released the latest track.

"Just to clarify: We didn't use any loop holes," Zedd shared on Twitter. "Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!"

"Thanks for the clarification @Zedd," Dr. Luke responded.

Kesha and Dr. Luke have been embroiled in a legal battle where the artist has accused the producer of drugging and raping her. The artist is set to appear in court in June to testify under oath about her relationship with Dr. Luke.

Kesha's legal battle has garnered support from fellow artists, including Zedd. The award-winning musician previously offered to help Kesha back in February. This led to recording sessions of Kesha's rendition of "True Colors."

The song has been well received and shot to No. 3 in Billboard's Trending 140 chart within the first 11 hours of its release.
