'Law & Order: SVU' Season 17 Episode 21 Spoilers: Team Looks into Controversial Rape Allegations

CBS' hit police procedural drama TV series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" Season 17 returns this week with another suspenseful and intensely-filled brand new episode that will see the SVU team tackling a rape claim, which may come off as something quite a bit questionable.

According to the synopsis shared over at The Futon Critic for the episode titled "Assaulting Reality," the production team of a reality dating TV series will have Lt. Olivia Benson and the rest of her team take part on the show as they conduct an investigation on a rape case claimed by one of the contestants.

A series of sneak peek posted on Spoiler TV sees Amanda and Dominic visiting the set of "Heart's Desire," to ask further about Melanie's her rape allegations. However, their presence seems to cause a stir when one of the show personnel comes up to tell the officers that everything that happened on the screen is all but scripted. Amanda and Dominic are not buying the pitch and insist that they talk directly with Melanie.

The person in question clarified that she is not sure if she was really raped but she's certain that she has no memory of the event that took place after her date with Ryan. She further revealed that when she woke up, she found her undergarments taken off her and that she felt sore on the inside. The series executives reasoned with the authorities that the incident wasn't really rape because Melanie confessed that she would lose her virginity to Ryan.

The crew insists, this time in another teaser that Melanie may just be overly reacting. It could be that she's upset to find out that the debonair picked the other contender over her.

Regardless of which, Benson and the SVU will certainly look deeper into the case to bring out the truth.

"Law & Order: SVU" Season 17 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
