LG G5 Release Date News: Global Release Set For April 1

Consumers waiting for the release of LG's latest flagship, the LG G5, can now mark their calendars on April 1. The device which was officially unveiled at the MWC 2016 in February now has an official release date. The company's home market, South Korea, will be getting the device a day earlier on March 31. April 1 is the release date for the United States and the United Kingdom, according to reports in Tech Times and TechRadar.

After the device was unveiled at the MWC, LG did not specify a release date yet, only citing that it will be released in markets in early April. This was not considered usual practice as other manufacturers such as Samsung did say when their flagship devices were going to be available for sale.

The Tech Times report also mentioned that prior to the official release date announcement, it was earlier reported that one U.S. carrier, U.S. Cellular, will begin to accept pre-orders on March 28, promising a release date of April 1. With LG's confirmation, this means that all major U.S. carriers will be releasing the device on that date.

The TechRadar report on the other hand reported the device's selling price in the U.S. and in the U.K. According to the report, the U.S. price will be around $630, while some carriers divvy that up, with the price of $26.25 or $26.50 per month for 24 months. In the U.K., an unlocked handset will go for £500 with Carphone Warehouse and Amazon. Special freebies are also on offer by some retailers and carriers such as an LG Battery Bundle or an LG 360 Camera.

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, an Adreno 530 GPU, paired with 4 GB of RAM. Internal storage is pegged at 32 GB, with microSD support for expansion up to 200 GB. Camera setup is impressive, with a rear-facing dual camera equipped with a 16-megapixel and an 8-megapixel sensor, with OIS, laser autofocus and LED flash. The selfie camera is an 8-megapixel shooter.

It will come pre-installed with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and has a 5.3-inch screen with a 2,560 x 1,440 quad HD display.
