New England are running away with the AFC East division, and come into today's game with a 9-2 record. Even though they are being chased by the 7-4 Miami Dolphins, time is running out for them to overturn the Patriots, and unless the Patriots experience some sort of total collapse then New England will take the division title again this year.

However, the Patriots have their eyes set higher than simply winning the AFC East again this year. At the moment they occupy the 1st seed spot in the AFC for the Playoffs, and if things end that way they get a bye through the First Round of the postseason and also face a potentially easier route through the Playoffs.

The current Playoffs Picture also puts the Oakland Raiders as 2nd seed in the AFC, and they also have a 9-2 record coming into this weekend. Both those teams will be looking behind them, with the Dolphins on 7-4, and the Kansas City Chiefs on 8-3.

The Denver Broncos are not even in the Playoffs spots right now despite their 7-4 record. But there is still time for things to be flipped on their heads, and that means the Patriots still have work to do and cannot relax yet.

The Rams meanwhile are third in the NFC West and have a 4-7 record coming into this game, and their postseason hopes are already effectively over.

It would take a turnaround of epic proportions and a host of extremely unlikely permutations each week between now and the end of the season for the Rams to even get near the postseason spots, and they may have to be satisfied with getting through their first season back in Los Angeles with a semi-respectable record.

The Rams will be looking to end the season strong with a few more wins, and then to evaluate themselves in the close season and to build on what they've achieved this year for next season.
