Minnesota Timberwolves NBA 2014 News, Rumors: Guard Kevin Martin Fined $15,000 for Obscene Gesture

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin has been fined $15,000 for making an "obscene gesture" during Saturday's game against the Chicago Bulls. Apparently, Martin had done a dance move popularized by former Timberwolves guard Sam Cassell after making a huge 3-point shot during the last quarter of the game.

While the dance seemingly looks harmless enough in the eyes of players and fans alike, the NBA feels differently about the whole thing. The hefty fine against Martin was announced by Rod Thorn, President of Basketball Operations.

"Minnesota Timerwolves guard Kevin Martin has been fined $15,000 for making an obscene gesture during the Timberwolves' 106-105 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Target Center, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations," the NBA press release read.

The loss was caused by a last second pair of free throws by Chicago guard Jimmy Butler, with 0.2 seconds remaining on the clock. Still, Martin had performed quite exceptionally during that game, with 33 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

This isn't the first time that a player was fined for doing the dance however, as Marco Belinelli, Andray Blatche, Caron Butler, and Jameer Nelson have also been fined over the past two seasons.

The penalty for doing the dance is equivalent to: "Initiating an altercation" and "Hitting an opponent in the forehead with the left index finger," "Dropping a flying forearm on an opposing rebounder," and "Verbally abusing the referees or calling them out after the game."
