Nancy Grace on Whitney Houston Death: 'Who Pushed Her Underwater?'

HLN host Nancy Grace has sparked a furor by asking, "Who pushed Whitney Houston underwater?" during a guest appearance on CNN.

The HLN anchor made a special appearance on CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin to offer her reaction to Whitney Houston's death. She poised the idea that someone gave Houston drugs and compared her death to those of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson.

"I'd like to know who was around her, who, if anyone gave her drugs -- following alcohol and drugs -- and who let her slip, or pushed her, underneath that water? Apparently no signs of force or trauma to the body… Who let Whitney Houston go under her water?" Grace asked.

Houston was found dead in her bathtub, a result not of drowning but of a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol. The medical coroner performed an autopsy, which revealed that the singer did not drown; her lungs did not have enough water in them to constitute drowning. A toxicology report will not be complete or known until several weeks.

CNN anchor Don Lemon worked to put distance between the organization and Grace's comments. "That is not CNN's reporting. We don't know that to be true," he stated. Beverly Hills Police Department spokesman told reporters that detectives are conducting a death investigation, not a homicide investigation.

Mary Jones, Houston's aunt, was the one to find Houston's body and perform CPR until medics arrived. Houston's body was flown to New Jersey last night, and a memorial service will be held at the Prudential Center, which can accommodate almost 20,000 people.

Grace is well known for her opinions on popular court cases and colorful commentary. She has followed and critiqued such high-profile cases as the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping, Caylee Anthony case and the Duke lacrosse rape allegations.

In 2006 she was blasted for an interview with Melinda Duckett in which she stated, "Ms. Duckett, you are not telling us for a reason. What is the reason? You refuse to give even the simplest facts of where you were with your son before he went missing." Duckett committed suicide the next day, which many believed was a direct result of Grace's interview.

Grace has offered no further insight into yesterday's comments, though CNN has worked to distance itself from the host.
