The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins will clash in the MLB Wild Card round game as this season's 2017 MLB Playoffs get underway. Today's game has a scheduled start time of 8.09 p.m. ET and takes place from Yankee Stadium in New York City. The game can be watched on TV on the ESPN network, or online through live stream (details below).

Many had written these two teams off prior to the regular season getting started, however, here we are at the end of a marathon regular season, and these two teams are still in it and have something to fight for.

The Twins had an horrendous 103 loss season last time out, and most believed just improving upon that was a more realistic target than getting into the postseason.

As for the Yankees, many had seen this season as one where they would invest a lot of time and effort into transitioning to a younger core circle of players.

However, both teams have exceeded the general expectations for them, and have claimed Wild Card spots for this year's postseason in the American League.

Tonight's game is a simple winner takes all match up, with the winner moving through to the full Playoffs, where as the loser's season will end here at Yankee Stadium tonight.

The Yankees will be hopeful that the home field advantage in tonight's game will be enough to get them through. They had started the regular season well, winning 21 of their opening 30 games, before suffering a mid-season slump that saw them drop back to 45-40.

Many wrote them off at that point, but they stormed back into form by ending their season 21-8 to finish the regular season on 91-71. That was enough to post their most successful regular season record since 2012. Since that year though, they have made the postseason just once; a Wild Card game loss to the Houston Astros in 2015.

Meanwhile, the Twins finished the season with an 85-77 record to claim their first postseason spot since 2010. For much of the season, the Twins struggled around the .500 mark, but after August 5, they went 33-21 to finish five games clear of the LA Angels and claim their postseason berth.
