OnePlus 2 Mini Specs Appear On Geekbench – Is The Smaller Device Making Its Debut Soon?
When a new smartphone appears on a benchmarking site, it usually means that the new device will be unveiled soon. If reports are true, OnePlus may be close to revealing its compact version of its smartphone called the OnePlus 2 Mini. According to a report in Tech Times, the device appeared on Geekbench recently, sporting a display that is smaller than 5 inches and powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset.
The year 2015 was a big year for OnePlus, having unveiled not just its flagship OnePlus 2 but also the OnePlus X. With the rumored OnePlus 2 Mini, the company seems to be showing the rest of its competition that it can keep up with them in terms of launching new phones.
According to the report, the Geekbench listing revealed that the upcoming handset sports a smaller screen at 4.6 inches, with a 1080p resolution. This screen size is similar to the size of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6S. Under the hood, the phone is reportedly powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, with an Adreno 430 GPU. It is paired with 4 GB of RAM. In terms of imaging, the device has a 13 megapixel rear shooter and a 5 megapixel front shooter. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed with the device. These specs may sound familiar as it is also the same specs as the OnePlus 2, except for the smaller screen.
According to the listing however, the phone is not equipped with NFC and HDR capabilities, which is also similar to the OnePlus 2.
The report said that the company is possibly trying to fill the need for smartphones that have the technical specs but are not too big in terms of screen size. There are also consumers who prefer the smaller and more compact phones as opposed to the larger sized phablets that is the trend of most flagships these days.
OnePlus has yet to confirm the reports about the phone and its specs, as well as when it is planning to launch the rumored device. Given that it is almost the end of the year, a 2016 announcement may be more feasible.
