OnePlus 3 Release Date, Specs News: Features Snapdragon 820, Iris Scanner, USB Type C And Black Steel
Barely half a year has passed since OnePlus released the OnePlus 2 which the company dubbed as the "2016 flagship killer" because of its high-end specs and reasonable price. According to a report in Android PIT, the company's second flagship proved that they can produce a high-performance phone that is not as expensive as other popular flagships. With that, rumors are already swirling around the Internet that the company is already working on its next flagship which will likely be called OnePlus 3.
In terms of the device's rumored release date, the summer of 2016 is what most reports are suggesting. This is also based on the product cycle that the company is used to – August 2015 was when they unveiled the OnePlus 2, so one year after is a safe estimation.
According to leaked renders of the device that came out recently, courtesy of MobileDad.com, the upcoming device will junk the sandstone or textured back that the first two phones had and will go for a black brushed steel back. The report claimed that the renders were that of the phone's prototype.
A Digital Trends report described the device as a cross between the OnePlus 2 and the OnePlus X, with some of the best features of the two put together in the new device. It reportedly had the "squared off sides and gently curved corners from the X, and the central camera lens from the 2."
Because the fingerprint scanner is nowhere to be seen in the renders, one report speculated that the device may instead sport iris-recognition technology as a security feature. The renders also showed that the device may have front-facing speakers this time.
In terms of the device's specs, the Android PIT report claims that it may come with the newest processor of Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820. Given that its previous phones had the older Snapdragon 810 processor, the upcoming OnePlus 3 may fare better in performance because it no longer has the overheating issues that the 810 was known for.
While some quarters say that the screen of the OnePlus 3 will still be a 1,080 one, others are saying that the company should step up by using a 1,440 screen for its next flagship. And since a USB Type C port was already on the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 3 is also expected to be equipped with this port as well.
