PlayStation Now PS4 Beta Available for Registered Gamers Today

PlayStation Now's private beta launched on PS4 today for players who previously registered for it.

The beta had been running on the PS3 for awhile, and now PS4 gamers can get in on the action. According to Polygon, beta testing has already used up around 50,000 hours of playtime.

Back in March, users could register after Sony sent out sign up emails.

PlayStation Now news has slowly trickled in since the beginning of the month, and so far there is no exact timetable as to when it will be readily available. According to IGN, estimates are guessing it will arrive before the new year, and then early 2015 globally because of Sony's admitted poor broadband connection in Europe.

This new service will allow players to rent games online through their console. IGN reported that it could possibly be between $4.99 and $5.99 to rent a streamed PS3 game. The Gaikai website showed a picture featuring Uncharted 3 and Far Cry 3 with little blue PS Now triangles and a price next to them. See that image here.

IGN reported it is unclear how long these rented games will be available for, and whether the price of the listed games is correct or not.

The PS4 recently hit a milestone when they surpassed 7 million units sold globally since its launch. According to Polygon, the data for total sales is accurate as of April 6. In addition to the console sales, over 20.5 million in software sales both digitally and in retail have been sold as well. Gamers have also used the share feature over 135 million times, and roughly 4.9 million Ustream and Twitch broadcasts have been created.

"The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage," Sony CEO Andrew House said told Polygon. "We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months."
