Qualcomm 2016: Three New Processors Coming Out This Year

Qualcomm has announced its new set of products for 2016 and the lineup includes three new smartphone processors.

The American chipmaker has announced that it will launch the Snapdragon 625, 435, and 425 in 2016. Qualcomm also vowed to give their customers the newest "premium-tier" experience with their new technology, according to IT Pro Portal.

In a statement, Qualcomm's senior vice president of product management Alex Katouzian said the company's processor technologies were created with scalability as part of their plan. He added that they want more consumers to have access to premium user experience, the report relays.

"This approach allows us to quickly expand our custom feature development, rapidly deploy compatible software across tiers, and enhance our ability to integrate application and connectivity solutions with leading user experiences to meet our customers' needs at multiple price points quickly and effectively," said Katouzian.

The Snapdragon 625 is a mid-end processor that has dramatically improved performance compared to its predecessor. It has 35 percent lower power consumption and support for thrice the speed of a traditional LTE device. The chip supports improved 4K video coding, playback, and recording, Digital Trends reports.

The Snapdragon 435 and 425 are low-end processors. Although they lack the power that the 625 has, they also have support LTE with carrier-specific alterations. The two chips are pin compatible with each other, and with the Snapdragon 430, so manufacturers can simply pick the processor they want to use without altering the design of the device. The two processors are also designed for batteries that can last long, the report explains.

As of now, consumers have yet to see how Qualcomm's 2016 processors perform with the new devices. The company is expected to distribute samples of the new processors to manufacturers in mid-2016. The new commercial devices are expected to be released in the second half of the year.
