Samsung Controls Largest Share of Android Market

To no surprise, Samsung came out on top in terms of controlling the Android market, according to data collected by Chinese research firm Umeng.

The Korean-based electronics giant owns 23.8 percent of the market share with Android devices, while HTC is a close second, holding 18.5 percent.

The third largest is Motorola who controls just 8 percent, followed by ZTE with 7.4 percent, and Huawei with 6.5 percent.

The devices used to compile Umeng's data had at least one app session during the second quarter of 2012.

In China, the first place device was the Samsung Galaxy Ace, a mid-level smartphone that is not as popular elsewhere. The Galaxy S2 fell right in the middle of the list as the only more established handset in the top 10. The Motorola Defy came in second which indicates that the Chinese hold on to their smartphones much longer than other nations.

Samsung released a new video on its YouTube page that previews what appears to be a new Windows 8-powered Notebook series.

The device in the video features a slot that most likely holds a stylus, making it similar to the Galaxy Note. It also features a QWERTY keyboard.

Samsung is scheduled to hold events during the IFA trade show in Berlin where this mystery device could be unveiled. The company will conduct two press conferences with one happening on Aug. 29 and the other on Aug. 30.

The company also released a new commercial for the Galaxy Note 10.1 that features Hollywood star James Franco this week.

The actor uses the new device in the ad and demonstrates how it is great for multitasking while strolling through his house where he is conducting different activities. The device is made to be the perfect assistant for a busy person and Franco's ad seems to stress this point.
