'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: Candidates Announce Their Running Mates

The Season 5 finale of ABC's hit political drama TV series, "Scandal," is finally here and it looks like fans are in for some huge shockers as the race for the Washington DC post already comes to a close.

According to the synopsis shared over at The Futon Critic for Episode 21 titled "That's My Girl," the presidential candidates are now getting ready to announce their running mate. For reasons that are yet to be known, Olivia finds herself caught in a "potentially dire situation." In another development, Cyrus will stumble upon some "damaging information" which could alter the ongoing presidential race.

A promo video posted over on YouTube teases some of the suspenseful moments that viewers should expect to take place in the upcoming episode. The caption hints of surprising twists as it teases that "no one will predict how the season finale goes down." Scenes upon scenes feature Olivia looking quite a bit worried over something. It would be safe to assume that her concerns will be about the increasingly-tensed election as well as the ongoing battles happening among her Gladiators.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, members of the cast Scott Foley (Jake Ballard) and Joshua Malina (David Rosen) talked about the season finale.

Foley said that Episode 21 will lay the groundwork for the forthcoming "Scandal" Season 6.

"The finale really lays out all of the pieces for next season, character by character. Where they fall with regards to the upcoming election, what roles they'll play -- or not play -- in it. What relationships are progressing, which ones are not…," Foley said.

As with the presidency, the two men expressed their reaction of surprise for the choices of the Vice President.

"…some surprising choices for veep! What Sanders and Trump might call "yuge," Malina chimed in.

"Scandal" Season 5 features the acts of Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, Guillermo Diaz as Huck, Darby Stanchfield as Abby Whelan, Katie Lowes as Quinn Perkins, Tony Goldwyn as President Fitzgerald Grant, Jeff Perry as Cyrus, and Bellamy Young as First Lady Mellie Grant.

"Scandal" Episode 21 premieres Thursday, May 12 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
