'Shameless' Season 6 News, Spoilers: Stars, EP On Finale's Big Cliffhanger

"Shameless" aired its season 6 finale, titled "Familia Supra Gallegorious Omnia!" on Sunday, April 3, leaving fans with a major cliffhanger and numerous questions about the fates of its various characters.

In the finale, Fiona's (Emmy Rossum) wedding to Sean (Dermot Mulroney) went horribly wrong after Frank (William H. Macy) appeared and announced that his daughter's groom has been using heroin. Following Frank's ill-timed revelation, Sean took off to try and retain joint custody of his son with his ex-wife and the Gallagher family members were left to face their own demons. Lip (Jeremy Allen White) was dropped off at rehab, Frank was thrown off a bridge, and Fiona and Sean parted ways.

"Shameless" executive producer Nancy Pimental recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the finale and what's ahead for the Gallaghers.

Though Pimental said that fans will have to wait until season 7 airs to find out if Frank is gone for good, she did speak about the character's motivation for foiling Fiona's wedding.

"In his own sick and twisted way, he believes he's a good dad and was doing the right thing," the "Shameless" boss said. "But he's a sociopath who sees it that way. It's so frustrating to the family and Kev [Steve Howey] and Vee [Shanola Hampton] that he never gets it."

As for whether or not Fiona and Sean's relationship is over for good, Pimental told TVLine that the writers are currently considering more stories about the two but that, for now, "it's the end of them, for sure."

White, whose character Lip was also left at a crossroads at the end of the finale, also spoke about Fiona and Sean's relationship. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said, "I think it would be good for her [to stay single for a while], but I think there's something there with Sean and Fiona."

"Shameless" returns for its seventh season in 2017.
