Sony FES Watch To Be Released December 10

Sony is joining the wearable technology bandwagon with its new FES e-paper watch, which, according to a report in Tech Times, will be launched in early December. The watch was initially "released" under a false brand name "Fashion Entertainment" or "FES."

According to the report, the Sony FES watch is unlike other smartwatches in the market. While most smartwatches have a bevy of functions and apps to choose from, the FES watch boasts of an elegant design and 24 different design options that can allow the user to change the look of its face and its band. The watch is said to target consumers who are fashion-conscious but want to experience a bit of new technology.

Priced at $240, the watch has an e-paper face, e-ink watch hands and a band that also has a band of e-paper on its surface. The watch's main function is to tell time, while being lightweight at only 43 grams and with a thickness of only 7.5 mm. It also comes with a two-year battery life, according to another report in CNET. It is far lighter than more wristwatches and it is also waterproof.

The design options for the watch's face and its band are available through the press of a button. With this, the user can choose from band designs such as alligator hide, stitched leather, faux metal links and watch faces that can be minimalist or more detailed with minute or hour marks.

For consumers who are reluctant to pay such a high price for a trendy digital timepiece, the Sony FES watch is a viable choice. The watch however is not for those who want something more out of their smartwatches than just time-telling.

The watch was initially released in Japan and will be available to the international market on December 10 via the Yahoo! Japan shopping website.
