St. Louis Blues Injury News: Goalie Brian Elliott Leaves Game with What Appears to Be Lower Body Injury
The St. Louis Blues announced that goalie Brian Elliott has been placed on injured reserve after suffering from a lower body injury in the team's 6-3 defeat against the San Jose Sharks on Monday. The official announcement also said that Elliott will be subjected to medical reevaluation after four weeks.
The injury happened in the first period of that game, during which Sharks player Logan Couture made a push with the puck, going past Elliott for a goal. A bunch of players were struggling for position in front of the net on the same play while Elliott tried to block the shot. It flew past him as he went down. He then left the ice and straight to the locker room accompanied by team trainers.
After the injury, Jake Allen filled in and was able to make 15 saves, although the Blues still lost the game after getting buried 3-0 early in the game. Interestingly, Allen himself was just recently activated from the injured reserve last Sunday after recovering from his own lower body injury he suffered early in January in a game against Anaheim. He missed 17 games this season due to that injury.
But with Elliott out at least four weeks, Allen will have to quickly shake off the rust and put himself back into action. But he's aware there's a lot of redeeming to do. "I haven't played in a month and a half," he said. "I got my feet wet. We got too far behind the eight ball to catch up," the goaltender added.
When Allen went down in January, the Blues managed to keep up, putting up a decent record of 12-3-2 in that span, with Elliott stepping up to the challenge. The 30-year-old had his best moment this season during a stretch where he led the team to three consecutive victories, in the process giving up a single goal in those games.
