Tebow Survives First Round Cuts, Will Play More Thursday: 'He's Great' Says Belichick

Tim Tebow is expected to see additional playing time on Thursday night after surviving the first round of team cuts. A second round of cuts Saturday will decide the player's fate but New England Patriot manager Robert Kraft says he is on Tebow's side.

The New England Patriot Roster was cut from 84 to 77 players on Tuesday, eliminating rookie tight end Evan Landi and rookie defensive lineman Anthony Rashad. Third string quarterback Tim Tebow however, successfully made the cut. A second cut will come Thursday when the Patriots reduce their roster from 77 to the required 53-player season limit.

It's been several years since the Patriots have carried a third quarterback on their roster, but team manager Robert Kraft is on Tebow's side. That won't matter however, when it comes to final cuts because team coach Bill Belichick will have final say.

"We want to make sure we have the 53 best people to help us win games during this year," Kraft told the Associated Press. "I'm rooting for (Tebow) and I'm in his corner, but I have the privilege of letting Bill make those decisions. He's got a pretty good record doing it."

Bill Belichick, the longest tenured active coach in the NFL and also considered to be the team's general manager, has led the Patriots to five Super Bowl victories since his starting in 2000. He had praise for Tebow on Tuesday.

"He's great to work with, outstanding," Belichick told AP.

Last week, when questioned about feeling stress over the cuts before first round decision had been made, Tebow told the ESPN he was more focused on his own game.

"Just worried about improving every single day and having fun out there at practice," he told reporters.

Tebow has inspired many with his positive and outward show of Christian faith.
