'The Affair' Season 2 Spoilers: Noah and Alison Face Consequences, Cole and Helen Say Their Piece (VIDEO)

Showtime's award-winning drama, "The Affair," is due to begin Season 2 next month, with spoilers popping up online ahead of the premiere.

Critically acclaimed Showtime series, "The Affair" won a Golden Globe for Best Television Drama series this year, and with Season 2 premiering on October, audiences have been treated to a trailer revealing what to expect when it airs next month.

When "The Affair" returns for its second season, there will be a painful exploration of Noah (Dominic West) and Alison's (Ruth Wilson) darkest emotions, with Noah's wife, Helen (Maura Tierney) slowly becoming disillusioned about the wonderful man she thought she married, particularly since Noah's arrest in last season's finale.

Helen is seen having a heated argument with her mother, Margaret (Kathleen Chalfant), where she claims she loves her husband but is made to realize he isn't good enough.

Noah and Cole (Joshua Jackson) are prepared to shower Alison with as much love as they can - Cole, because he wants her back and may be planning some revenge of his own, and Noah, because he already told Helen in last season's Episode 10 that he was leaving her.

Alison, caught in the middle, is likely to suffer a breakdown, with the death of her son, Gabriel, weighing heavily on her and her mother-in-law, Cherry (Mare Winningham), already blaming her for Gabe's death. With her history of self-harm, audiences can expect another suicide attempt. The question remains whether Alison will put her full trust in Noah, despite having trust issues.

Season 2 is expected to expand further to explore Cole and Helen's point of view, as the consequences of Noah and Alison's indiscretions start to unravel.

Viewers will also find out what happens to Noah after his arrest, a question that was left hanging since Season 1 ended in December 2014.

"The Affair" will return to Showtime on October 4, Sunday at 10pm ET.
