'The Good Wife' Season 5 Spoilers: Loyalty Tested, New Beginnings in Season Finale (TRAILER VIDEO)

After a tumultuous and heartbreaking season, "The Good Wife" will wrap up its latest run on Sunday, May 18. Producers stated that fans will be left with "a real sense that a new chapter is starting." What that means exactly is only for the producers to know and for viewers to speculate. Read on for more information about the finale.

According to reports, the law firm of Florrick Agos is put to the test after a camera's open feed line is left on after a teleconference between lawyers from both Florrick Agos and Lockhart Gardner. When Alicia and Cary realize that there is a threat they "never saw coming," the two engage in a very "explosive scene" that brings all the tension between the two to a head.

Cary has always questioned Alicia's loyalty to the firm, especially since Will Gardner's death, and tension has been growing between Cary and Alicia. Last week, Alicia volunteered to help rival Diane Lockhart with a case, leaving Cary speechless and upset. However, that's only the latest tussle between the two, and now things will finally be aired in every way.

Also on board for the season finale are special guest stars Stockard Channing (Alicia's mother Veronica) and Mary Beth Peil (Peter's mother Jackie). Will these two ladies square off or team up in order to prevent Alicia and Peter from divorcing? When audiences last saw Peter, he was tempted by a young lady in his office. Did he give in to that temptation, or is he determined to fight for a marriage that seemingly is only for political benefit?

"A lot is swinging on Alicia and Diane's decisions," executive producer Robert King told TVLine.

Could the two women finally team up and join forces against their mutual enemies? Diane was last seen preparing for battle against her colleague, Louis Canning, who had seemingly sabotaged her with a client and had made it known that he wanted her out of the firm. Whatever happens, King said, will lead to a "bigger battlefield" come the start of season six, which returns in the fall on CBS.
