Tim Tebow: NFL Status Doesn't Guarantee God's Love

Tim Tebow, the Denver Broncos’ quarterback, recently weighed in on the debate concerning God’s “special love” for football.

In an interview on “The NFL Today,” Tebow spoke with host James Brown about learning from his parents that God loves everybody equally. The starting Broncos’ quarterback said his athletic ability had no correlation with the amount of love God had for him.

“I think number one is, what my mom and dad preached to me when I was a little kid: just because you may have athletic ability and you may be able to play a sport doesn't make you any more special than anybody else," Tebow said.

"Doesn't mean God loves you more than anybody else,” he added.

Still, media outlets have labeled Tebow as an individual with God’s special favor. After Tebow’s eighth start during the 2011-2012 season, media outlets were labeling him “God’s begotten son,” and “God’s QB.”

Many have likened his late comeback wins with his powerful praying ability. Charlamagne, a New York City radio personality on Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” radio show, reprimanded nonbelievers of Tebow who watched him pull out late game wins.

"Everybody is wondering how is Tim Tebow doing this how is he winning these games, well it's simple," Charlamagne said. "There is absolutely no defense against prayer. Tim Tebow is the best prayer in the NFL."

But Tebow maintained that his wins were nothing more than part of a game.

"We play a sport. It's a game,” Tebow told Brown. “At the end of the day, that's all it is, is a game. It doesn't make you any better or any worse than anybody else.”

Tebow insisted that the outcome of the game did not matter, and that everybody should be treated equally regardless of their performance on the field.

“By winning a game, you're no better. By losing a game, you're no worse,” he said. “I think by keeping that mentality, it really keeps things in perspective for me to treat everybody the same."
