2. Trump signs executive order on women’s health
Trump signed an executive order Monday titled “Advancing Women’s Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life.” The order creates a Women’s Health Division within the National Institutes of Health and a White House Women’s Health Task Force.
The president and first lady Melania Trump unveiled the order at a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden on Monday. Melania Trump outlined what she called the first lady’s "five pillars of women’s health innovation.”
The “five pillars” call for “directing research funding towards finding cures for diseases that affect women in a unique way,” using “super intelligence to enhance our understanding of female biology and speed up medical discoveries all to the benefit of women,” accelerating “the process of guiding promising therapies from laboratories to female patients while still keeping strict safety standards,” ensuring that “medical breakthroughs are accessible and affordable to women regardless of their financial circumstances” and replacing “generations of silence with open [...] conversation, education and compassion.”
Trump said at the ceremony that the initiative will "promote new research and really go after the understudied diseases affecting women."
The initiative seeks to "promote innovative technologies to diagnose conditions sooner and improve treatment using the best available science," Trump added.
The task force will be led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and will include several other Cabinet members. The task force held its first meeting later that day.
