Wentworth Miller Suicide Attempts Revealed; Actor Discusses Troubled Past

Wentworth Miller, star of Fox's hit drama "Prison Break," recently revealed his homosexuality and now explained that he had previously attempted suicide.

This past Saturday, Sept. 7, Miller spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle, where he said he tried to kill himself "more than once" throughout his life as he struggled with his sexuality, according to The New York Daily News.

Miller said his first suicide attempt was at age 15.

"I waited until my family went away for the weekend and I was alone in the house and I swallowed a bottle of pills. I don't remember what happened over the next couple of days but I'm pretty sure come Monday morning I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine," the actor said.

Miller spoke of the difficulties he had growing up and struggling with his sexuality.

"Growing up I was a target. Speaking the right way, standing the right way, holding your wrist the right way. Every day was a test and there was a thousand ways to fail," Miller said.

Miller recently exposed his homosexuality publically in a letter posted to GLAAD's website, declining an invitation to a Russian festival because of Russia's recently passed anti-gay laws.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. … The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systemically denied their basic right to live and love openly," the actor wrote in his letter.
