Wes Welker Debut: Broncos' New WR Makes Humorous Fumble (VIDEO)

Wide receiver Wes Welker made his first Bronco debut on Thursday night, and while his overall performance may have been worth all the hype his free agent pick up was given over the summer, his fumble in the second quarter was too much to get over.

Welker is bound to earn a promising report card this season alongside Bronco quarterback Peyton Manning, who tied the record for most touchdowns in a single game Thursday night during the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Welker in fact, a former wide receiver on the New England Patriots, finished the game with nine grabs for 67 yards and two scores on the Broncos' 49-27 win.

But despite a good performance, he ranked decently as third best receiver on the team by the end of the night, it was hard to forget Welker's debut fumble. In the second quarter of the game Welker was put in as punt runner, thanks in part to his reputation of having sure hands. But Welker failed on the first catch with the ball going straight through his arms and to the floor. He followed the fumble with a weak attempt to crawl after the tumbling ball but failed to keep the Ravens from recovering it.

The Raven's Ray Rice used the very next play to score a touchdown without even being touched by the defense, giving the team a 14-7 lead before they were demolished by Manning. Welker's fumble was also notable enough to draw some celebrity attention on Twitter.

"Wonder what Brady's saying bout now?!hahahahahahaha," Samuel Jackson tweeted after Welker's miss.

"Why would you put Wes Welker in for punt return? *confused face*" former American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks added.

Even the New England Patriot's most recently cut QB player found enough humor in it to add his two cents.

"I knew I shouldn't have ate that popcorn," he wrote on his account, signing it "Wes Welker."
