'Wonder Woman 2' News: Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot to Return for the Sequel
Given the success of "Wonder Woman" in the box office, fans had clamored for a sequel. Recent reports have revealed that their wish was heard as director Patty Jenkins has agreed to take on the universe again in the temporarily titled, "Wonder Woman 2." Furthermore, the film will feature actress Gal Gadot again as its heroine.
Jenkins has already started working on the script for the "Wonder Woman" sequel. She works along DC universe's Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. Jon Berg. Jenkins closed the deal to direct the upcoming film recently, and while there's no word on the budget that they will receive, it is said that the crew will have $8 million for the entire process.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the negotiations leading up to the done deal between Warner Bros. and Jenkins was not an easy process. Considering that she was only paid $1 million for "Wonder Woman," Jenkins and her team suddenly shot through the charts to claim the spot of being the highest paid female director. Before the deal was closed, Jenkins only had a contract for one film.
Although she had been a replacement director for Michelle MacLaren, it seems that Jenkins can no longer be separated from "Wonder Woman."
"Wonder Woman" had been an unexpected surprise in the box office as it successfully reached the $800 million mark internationally. It garnered an impressive $103 million during its first weekend, and it only continued to stay strong through the weeks of showing.
"Wonder Woman" also garnered positive reviews from the critics, with many lauding the performance of Gadot and the jaw-dropping skills of Jenkins. Since its release, the combo has been requested to return for another film.
The sequel remains to be in production by Warner Bros. has announced that it is scheduled to land in theaters by Dec. 13, 2019.
