WWE News and Updates 2016: What's Next for Cesaro? Title Shot or SmackDown Trade Underway

Cesaro has had a fluctuating career in the WWE for the longest time. At 35 years old, he is still in his prime, proving time and again that he is one of the strongest athletes in the wrestling ring.

However, his lean physique may have hampered his rise to the top. Vince McMahon largely prefers the bigger, more muscular guys as the faces of the company. The Rock, Triple H, John Cena and now Samoan Roman Reigns were and are marketed as WWE's top names.

Cesaro, however, has gained a huge backing from the fans who have always wanted to see underdogs like Daniel Bryan get the golden belts. Unfortunately, the Swiss strongman's future is still in limbo at this point.

Title run

The worst rumor surrounding Cesaro is that he may be leaving the company. His contract is reportedly almost up and he may opt not to re-sign with the company when the time comes.

The best of them so far is that he may finally get the push he deserves. Cesaro may be given a shot at a title soon.

The Swiss superstar is currently embroiled in a Best-of-7 series with Sheamus, who at one point has a dominating 3-0 lead. Cesaro then defeated him at a live show in London which was followed with another win at Raw for a chance at tying the matchup next week.

One outcome for the winner of the series could be a title shot. If the battle goes to Clash of Champions and Cesaro defeats Sheamus, chances are he will be booked to a Universal Championship match against either Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins. The match could be set at Hell in a Cell on October 30.

Laying the SmackDown

While Cesaro does deserve a title run, the match could also be tipped toward Sheamus. If Cesaro is booked to lose, he might be traded to SmackDown.

It is not too bad of an option as Cesaro would compete in a smaller yet still competitive roster. He could be put over by veterans like Randy Orton and Cena.

But Cena still has doubts on the rising superstar. While he favors Reigns' dominance amid the fans' dismay, he said it was Cesaro who could not connect with the fans yet.

Cena said it is essential to get the crowd to like you in order to be pushed to the top. But with Cesaro having a growing fan base (the "Cesaro Section"), he may not be far from that goal.
