Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro Certification Spotted on the FCC

The soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro has recently been spotted getting its certification at the FCC.

Less than a week after reports emerged Chinese tech manufacturer Xiaomi was planning to enter the US smartphone market, its upcoming Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro handset was confirmed as having been certified at the Federal Communications Commission.

Touted to be the first Xiaomi handset in the US, the Redmi 2 Pro has just gotten the go signal from the US wireless regulator, and is expected to to be launched in the country soon.

Carrying a Snapdragon 410 SoC, the 4.7-inch Redmi 2 Pro has a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution touchscreen display over 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage under the hood.

A GSM850/1900 handset, powered by a 2,200 mAh battery, the Redmi 2 Pro includes support for LTE 2, 4, and 7, and may have been manufactured by the company to be compatible with US carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile.

Based on its specs, the Redmi 2 Pro looks to be a modified iteration of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, a handset the company launched in August as its first made-in-India smartphone that sold at roughly the equivalent of $110 when it was released in China.

With its first smartphone launch in August 2011, Xiaomi has become a brand associated with low-cost handsets, with the company rising quickly to popularity in the Asian smartphone market.

Xiaomi is currently China's second-largest smartphone manufacturer, having just recently been overtaken by Huawei in the cost-effective devices market. Its specialty in unlocked smartphones has reportedly started to gain a following in the US, making it a prime opportunity for Xiaomi to begin setting up shop in the country.

While the Redmi 2 Pro has already been certified by FCC, it is a well-known fact in the smartphone industry that not all official confirmations result in an actual launch, which means Xiaomi fans will just have to await the announcement of the phone's debut in the US.
