Talarico, other Democrats say they oppose trans athletes in girls’ sports: list

1. US Senate candidate James Talarico
James Talarico, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Texas, is campaigning against Republican Ken Paxton ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, where the RealClearPolitics average of polls shows Talarico leading Paxton by 2.7 percentage points. Texas supported Trump by double digits in the 2024 presidential election.
“I oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it endangers safety or fairness.” Talarico insisted during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday.
“Every sport has to be safe and fair," he added, reversing course on his earlier position. "As a former public school teacher, I care a lot about our student athletes. I care a lot about our students. And so, I will oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it risks safety or fairness.”
In 2021, Talarico voted against House Bill 25, the Texas law banning trans-identified male athletes from competing in girls' sports. Not only did Talarico vote against the bill, but he also gave an impassioned speech on the floor of the Texas House where he warned that the legislation would lead to increased suicidal ideation among trans-identified youth.
