Trump's week in review: Targeting ISIS in Nigeria, $3K to illegal immigrants who self-deport

1. Trump announces construction of 2 new battleships: ‘The largest we’ve ever built’
At a press conference Monday, President Donald Trump announced that he had approved plans for the U.S. Navy to begin building two new battleships, which he stressed will be the “largest we’ve ever built.”
U.S. Secretary of the Navy John Phelan, who appeared alongside Trump at the press conference, added that “The future Trump-class battleship, the USS Defiant, will be the largest, deadliest, and most versatile and best-looking warship anywhere on the world’s oceans.”
Phelan said “offensive firepower from the biggest guns of our era” would be the defining feature of the forthcoming battleships, adding, “This ship isn’t just to swat the arrows; it is going to reach out and kill the archers.”
Trump said the construction of the new ships “will create thousands of American jobs.”
In response to a question from a reporter about the timetable for the construction of the new battleships, Trump said he expects it to take "about two-and-a-half years.” However, a statement released by the U.S. Navy estimates that construction of the USS Defiant was “targeted for the early 2030s.”
Trump clarified that the construction of the two new battleships merely constitutes the beginning of a new shipbuilding era: “We’re going to start with two and we’re going to quickly morph into 10. And ultimately, we think it’s going to be anywhere from 20 to 25 of these.”
