Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, said he’s saddened by the “misinformation” reported by the media last week about the conditions at Customs and Border Protection facilities where immigrant children and adults are being held.
The detention centers are facilities where undocumented immigrant children are held temporarily before being transferred to long-term shelter facilities operated by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Rodriguez said he and other pastors toured a detention facility in Clint, Texas, where he said they found: “No soiled diapers, no deplorable conditions, and no lack of basic necessities.”
“No one is sleeping on cement whatsoever. There were three-tiered cots for the older kids. The younger kids had even better areas,” Rodriguez said during a press call with The Christian Post on Monday.

A church's sign welcoming passersby to Hawkins, Texas, is no longer on display following a lengthy legal battle with the nation's largest atheist organization.
The sign, which said: "Jesus Welcomes You to Hawkins" was taken down on June 28.
It had been on display since 2015 on property owned by the Jesus Christ Open Altar Church.
The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation contested the sign’s display, saying its message to residents was that the city: "Prefers Christianity over other religions."
Church trustee Mark McDonald told the Longview News-Journal that the church is treating the incident as a “hate crime of religious discrimination,” and said the city also pulled up the church’s crosses.
The church's legal counsel said they will continue to challenge the city’s decision to take down the sign.
— Manslaughter charge dropped against Alabama woman whose unborn baby died after she was shot
A manslaughter charge has been dropped against an Alabama woman whose unborn baby died during a fight in which she was shot in the stomach five times.
Marshae Jones was 5 months pregnant when she was accused of beating up a co-worker who drew a gun and fired it at her five times, wounding her in the stomach and killing her unborn baby.
The fight occurred at a Dollar General store in December 2018 in the city of Pleasant Grove located just west of Birmingham, Alabama.
A grand jury in Jefferson Country scrapped the charges against the co-worker, finding that she had acted in self-defense. Jones, however, was indicted for “initiating a fight knowing she was five months pregnant” and was arrested last week. Her arrest precipitated a national outcry.
District Attorney Lynneice Washington said on Wednesday that she was dropping the case.
Washington said: “I have determined that it is not in the best interest of justice to pursue prosecution of Ms. Jones on the manslaughter charge for which she was indicted by the grand jury. No further legal action will be taken against Ms. Jones in this matter.”
