In a pre-recorded video released in April 2023, President Joe Biden announced he would be seeking a second term in office and officially launched his reelection campaign.

Despite growing concerns about his age and health, Biden said he wanted more time to “finish the job.” If he’s reelected, Biden would be 86 at the end of his term.

The three-minute video announcement was published on the fourth anniversary of when Biden declared he was running for president in 2019.

Statistics compiled by The Green Papers, which keeps track of the results of presidential primaries and caucuses, show that Biden has secured 3,646 of 4,698 delegates available at the Democratic National Convention based on the results of primary contests that have taken place as of June 3, making him the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. He has won 87.29% of the popular vote so far.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls measuring voter intentions in the race, Biden secures 45.8% of the vote in a two-way race with his leading rival, Republican former President Donald Trump. His vote share drops to 39.5% in a five-way race featuring Trump and three leading independent and third-party candidates. In both scenarios, Trump narrowly leads with 46.3% support and 41.4% support, respectively.

The ticket of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to receive the Democratic nomination for the offices of president and vice president, respectively, at the Democratic National Convention, scheduled to take place from Aug. 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois.
