10 most populous countries that have birthright citizenship: list
6. Canada
The second-largest country on Earth, with a population of approximately 40.4 million, Canada has birthright citizenship, with exceptions for diplomats and children of parents who work for international organizations in the country. Neither is conferred citizenship.
The government states that a person is “likely a Canadian citizen if you were born in Canada.”
“When you’re born here, your province or territory issues a birth certificate. These documents are valid proof of your Canadian citizenship,” stated the Canadian government.
“Some people born in Canada are not citizens. For example, if your parent was working in Canada with diplomatic privileges for a foreign government or international organization when you were born, then you weren’t a Canadian citizen at birth.”
