The U.S. Supreme Court recently rejected President Donald Trump's attempt to limit birthright citizenship, ruling that babies born to immigrants, including those who are in the country for a limited amount of time for work or travel, are automatically U.S. citizens.
In Trump v. Barbara, the high court ruled 5-4 that Trump's executive order that restricted birthright citizenship violated the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The issue has drawn attention to the relatively small number of nations that, like the U.S., broadly grant citizenship to nearly everyone born within their borders.
According to global citizenship data, over 30 countries maintain birthright citizenship, with many concentrated in the Western Hemisphere.
