10 most populous countries that have birthright citizenship: list
4. Mexico
Mexico, a country of nearly 133 million people, guarantees birthright citizenship in Article 30 of its constitution, which states that “Mexican nationals by birth” includes anyone “born in the Mexican territory, regardless of their parents’ nationality.”
The constitutional guarantees also include any person “born in a foreign country which are sons/daughters of Mexican parents by naturalization” and anyone “born on board of Mexican military or merchant vessels or aircrafts.”
Shortly before the Trump v. Barbara decision was released, The Associated Press published an article about the policy, focusing on the rising Haitian immigrant population residing in Mexico.
According to the AP, Mexico saw an increase in Haitian immigration in 2021, with around 10% of the female immigrants from the Caribbean nation being pregnant when they arrived.
