10 most populous countries that have birthright citizenship: list

5. Argentina

With a population of a little over 46 million people, Argentina defines a citizen as including everyone “born, or who may be born, in the territory of the Argentine Republic, regardless of the nationality of their parents, with the exception of the children of foreign Ministers and members of the Legation residing in the Republic.”

However, according to Immigration to Argentina, President Javier Milei has implemented greater restrictions on naturalization.

“Argentinian immigration law changed recently on May 29, 2025. Now, even if you are giving birth in Argentina, you still must reside in the country for two years before applying for Argentinian citizenship.”

“Nowhere else in the world you could obtain a second passport as fast as you can have Argentinian citizenship after giving birth in Argentina to your baby. But this is in the past now.”
