9. Chad

The Republic of Chad, a country with a population of approximately 21.5 million, has a form of birthright citizenship for children with one parent who's already a citizen.

According to Global Citizen Solutions, Chad has “conditional birthright citizenship,” which, in general, means they require “that one parent be a citizen or permanent resident.”

“Yes, several African countries, including Lesotho and Chad, have provisions for birthright citizenship, but many require at least one parent to be a citizen or legal resident,” added GCS.

The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada noted that Chadians are defined as “Legitimate or natural children born in Chad and who have no other nationality of origin” or “Children born in Chad to unknown parents.”
